Founded in 1985, Studio Ghibli’s has captured the hearts of audiences around the world with their distinct artistic style through using traditional hand-drawn animation. Several movies by Ghibli, such as “Spirited Away”, “My Neighbor Totoro” and “The Boy and The Heron” have achieved critical recognition and numerous awards. These films explore complex themes and emotions, making them beloved by viewers of all ages.
Walk Through Ghibli Wonderlands
The World of Studio Ghibli exhibition features impressive large-scale theatrical sets that recreate iconic scenes from various Studio Ghibli films. These delicate designs take you to the magical worlds and experience them in person.
The bus stop from My Neighbor Totoro: You can stand alongside Satsuki and Mei as they wait for the Catbus in the rain, complete with a life-sized Totoro figure.
The train carriage from Spirited Away: Experience the lovely journey alongside Chihiro as she rides the train with No-Face and other spirits, with detailed recreations of the train’s interior and the mystical landscapes outside the windows.
The Howl’s Moving Castle: A massive, moving replica of Howl’s whimsical and fantastical castle, allowing you to explore its complicated details and imagine yourself as part of the story.
From Concept to Screen
The exhibition also provides a unique opportunity to discover the creative process behind the studio’s iconic films through a showcase of concept sketches, character designs, background arts and storyboards. These artistic treasures not only reveal the meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into each Studio Ghibli film but also offer a deeper understanding of the creative vision behind the stories.
Heading to Singapore
For the first time ever, this wonderful world of Studio Ghibli exhibition is set to visit Singapore. The highly desired “The World of Studio Ghibli” exhibition will make the debut at the ArtScience Museum on October 4, 2024, running until February 2, 2025.
The upcoming exhibition is set to be one of the largest to date, featuring 16 large-scale sets and interactive art installations spread across 11 galleries. It will also include new additions from the studio’s latest film, “The Boy and the Heron”.
