Variations of Hanfu (漢服)

Hanfu has diverse styles emerging over the centuries, contributing to the rich tapestry of traditional Chinese culture and aesthetic sensibilities. Its intricate designs, vibrant silk colors, and many accessories like headpieces, accessories, and footwear all come together to complete the elegant and refined look.

Some typical Hanfu styles for men:

  • Yichang (cross-collar top and wrap-around skirt)
  • Yuanling Pao (round-collar robe)
  • Zhiju (straight-hem robe), Dachang (open-fronted robe)
  • Banbi (half-sleeve jacket)
  • Beizi (a cross-collar robe)

Some typical Hanfu styles for women:

Ruqun – 襦裙

This is the most classic version of Hanfu, consisting of an upper top and a wrap-around skirt. The top is called “ru/襦” and the skirt is called “qun/ 裙”, hence “ruqun”. Sleeves can be narrow or wide. Ruqun is divided into two types based on the height of the skirt: “Qiyao Ruqun/ 齐腰襦裙” (waist-high ruqun) and “Qixiong Ruqun/ 齐胸襦裙” (chest-high ruqun).
