Operated by Destination NSW, the iconic Vivid Sydney festival aims to transform Sydney city into a captivating canvas of light, art, and music, which draws a lot of both local and global visitors to join and enjoy together. It holds various activities and shows that incorporate Sydney culture values of Light, Music, Ideas and Food.
During this period, Sydney’s iconic landmarks and cityscape come alive with mesmerizing light shows, interactive art displays, food and exciting musical performances.
When Vivid Sydney takes place
The Vivid Sydney Festival takes place annually from May to June, which typically lasts for 3 weeks.
The 14th edition – Vivid Sydney 2024 is held from May 24th to June 15th with the main theme of “Humanity”, containing many key activities taking place in between. Vivid Sydney 2024 will generate a multi-sensory experience across four main pillars: Vivid Light, Vivid Music, Vivid Ideas and Vivid Food.
What to expect at Vivid Sydney 2024
At the heart of Vivid Sydney are the Vivid Light series with the highly anticipated ‘Lights On’ events featuring stunning light installations and 3D projections across the 8km Vivid Light Walk.
The centerpiece of this mesmerizing display was the Sydney Opera House, which featured the breathtaking new digital artwork, “Lighting of the Sails: Echo (2024)”. The iconic building’s sails were transformed into a captivating canvas, with dynamic arts showing across the surface, creating an immersive and enchanting spectacle.

Sea, Sand and Stars is held at the Museum of Contemporary Art, in which the Chinese Australian artist – Guan Wei showcases onto the surface of the museum his signature artwork featuring the movement of the ocean world and vibrant life at Bondi Beach.
Gumscape with Road and Creatures is held at the Custom House. Reg Mombassa, one of Australia’s most beloved artists, will display his signature retro-futuristic art all over the Customs House surface, supported by art mapping technologies.
Hika Rakuyo is a dazzling holographic light show featuring the iconic Australia’s flower, supported by a cutting-edge light technology that creates holographic and mesmerizing visual appeals to visitors.
Vivid Sydney’s special drone show “Love is in the air” will be organized for three nights only: Saturday 8, Sunday 9 and Saturday 15 June from 9:10PM (which is the final night of Vivid). Over 700 drones will unfold in the night sky and turn into ever-changing shapes and patterns.
