What you can expect from ART AQUARIUM
Hidetomo Kimura, the man behind the ART AQUARIUM, created this permanent art museum with the intention of making goldfish the focal point. He views goldfish as living works of art, and a staple in Japanese culture. The museum has nine exhibition spaces with different themes, soundtracks and light effects.
Stepping into the space through a neon-lit hallway, you can spot thousands of Japanese goldfish (Kingyo) in 70 different species, swimming in colorful glass tanks in many shapes. With the sound effects, the fishes seem to be dancing in movements, creating a fantasy scene in front of your eyes.
The “Goldfish Corridor” – 金魚の回廊 is a space that pays tribute to the corridors of Japanese shrines, assembling goldfish in an array of column tanks. This space seamlessly blends the natural beauty of the goldfish with the serene, elegant aesthetic of a traditional Japanese.
This photogenic “Goldfish stone lanterns” – 金魚の石灯籠 has rectangle tanks with towering plants over the head. This is a distinctive installation that illuminates Japanese shrine’s gardens, and signature entrances.
“Goldfish Bamboo Forest” -金魚の竹林: This marvelous Bamboo forest space features various bamboo-shaped cylinder of water tanks. The true magic of the Bamboo Grove lies in the way these water tanks dynamically change their color patterns, creating a hypnotic and visually stunning experience.
Don’t miss out on the “Tenku rium” 天空リウム space in the museum which is a large-scale art installation of imaginary flower blooming in the sky.
Additionally, you will have a chance to explore diverse species of goldfish in the “Show of Kingyo” – 新金魚品評. The display consists of 24 square aquariums where you can witness swimming gold fishes from above.
Another exhibited space featuring the incredible seasonal floral arrangements by the floral artist Shoro Karayazaki has captivated the heart of many visitors. It is called “Flowerium” – フラワーリウム.
There are way more mesmerizing exhibited spaces waiting for you to explore in the ART AQUARIUM. Hope you enjoy this art exhibition to the fullest and don’t forget to save this spot for your next trip to Ginza, Tokyo!
